===============KOREAN==============

2PM Heartbeat Lyrics

==============Korean=============

Can you feel my heartbeat?
Heartbeat
Heartbeat

Listen to my heartbeat
It’s beating for you
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s waiting for you
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s beating for you
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s waiting for you

Stop trying to get her back
She ain’t coming
She’s gone
Gotta be moving on

Listen to my Heartbeat
It’s beating for you
Listen to my Heartbeat
It’s waiting for you
Listen to my Heartbeat
It’s beating for you

Can you feel my heartbeat?
Heartbeat
Heartbeat
The heart you stomped on and left
is still beating.
It still beats…for you.

No matter how hard I try to forget
No matter how many new people I meet
I don’t know why again and again
I turn around and think of you.
“I don’t want to. I want to stop!”
No matter how much I plead with myself
It’s all useless.
Why? Is my heart broken?

Why do I still
do these foolish things?
My head knows it’s stupid
but my heart does whatever it wants.
I can’t let you go
I still feel like you’re next to me
I can’t believe we’re over.

No matter who I meet,
A corner of my heart
is closed off and will always
be reserved for you.
There is no way you’ll come back
but I continue to think that you might
Why do I still believe this?
Why won’t my heart listen to me?

Listen to my heartbeat
It’s beating for you
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s waiting for you
It doesn’t know its over
I don’t understand why it’s like this
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s beating for you
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s waiting for you
Thoughts of you still pain me
But with every heartbeat I remember.

I have to forget, I can’t live while remembering
I have to erase her
If I don’t I’ll die.
Stop trying to get her back
She ain’t coming
She’s gone
Gotta be moving on
She’s gone and won’t be coming back
She doesn’t think about me at all.

She has no idea that I’m waiting for her
and is living her life just fine.
She’s already forgotten me
Completely erased me
So why can’t I do the same?

Listen to my heartbeat
It’s beating for you
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s waiting for you
It doesn’t know its over
I don’t understand why it’s like this
Listen to my heartbeat
It’s beating for you

Korea’s Strict Policy for Common Good (During my suspecting of Swine Flu)

Early in this month, November 2009, I was being quarantined for a week because of being suspected from swine flu. At first time, I thought it was a really bad policy, leaving a sick man alone without allowing any body sees him and forbidding him going out. I was somehow getting mad at that time.

As time passed by, however, I rethought my thought. That was not it! This policy should be implemented to avoid further spread out of Swine flu because there were a lot of suspected victims in South Korea and there were more and more people died because of it. To make sure that everything runs well, the policy should be implemented strictly, without any exception to any students, including me myself.

Because of this strict policy (and other more policies of Korean government) Korea has managed to grow up very fast in tackling problems and advancing new glory in economics grows.

Four “Great Gates” of Seoul: Dongdaemun, Namdaemun, Seodaemun, and Sukjeongmun

Gates of Seoul

Gates of Seoul

It is always been to visit the almost-10.5 million populated city, Seoul, South Korea. Surrounded by 4 gates, namely Dongdaemun in the east, Namdaemun in the south, Seodaemun in the west, and Sukjeongmun in the north, Seoul always welcomes us for every visit. Those gates are the main entrance to Seoul.

The feeling of very warm welcome greeting is so touching that we cannot resist to be quickly get into Seoul, a sensation of curiosity to uncover what lies inside the gigantic wall of those four gates of Seoul are. Symbolizing the protection toward the soul of Korea, those steady walls also remind us to be careful inside, to respect the long life culture lived by the Seoul residents.

Officially called Sungnyemun, Namdaemun is located at the heart of Seoul. The term “nam” in its first Korean character means “south” since it was the southern gate of Seoul during the kingdom of Joseon Dynasty. Finished to be constructed in 1398, nowadays Namdaemun is located nearby Namdaemun market, a very traditional 24-hour market of Korea that has been operating for several centuries.

Namdaemun

Namdaemun

Another major gate during the Joseon Dynasty is Dongdaemun, “Great East Gate”, deriving the meaning “east” after the term “dong” in Korean language. Similar to the Namdemun, Dongdaemun has also a shopping center nearby it. Moreover, Dongdaemun has become the largest shopping center in the entire South Korea.

Dongdaemun

Dongdaemun

Located in north side of Seoul City, Sukjeongmun is another major gate of Seoul. In the center of this very gate, there is Gyeongbokgung Palace and Changaemun on its right. Due to safety reason, the gate was not accessible to public since 1968. However, in 2006, it was reopened to public for free, available to be visited from Tuesday until Saturday with reservation required at least one week beforehand.

Sukjeongmun

Sukjeongmun

Unlike other gates, Seodaemun doesn’t exist anymore today. It was located (as its name) in the west side of old Seoul. However, because of urban renewal plan by the government in 1915, the gate was torn down. As remembrance to its existence, a small plaque is placed on a small walk nearby to the location of the gate before, to keep people’s mind that this Seodaemun gate was there before.

International Space Festival in Daejeon

IAC Banner

IAC Banner

From 9th of this month until the 16th, there is a huge gathering going on here in Daejeon, South Korea, related to Space. The international organization of space is now gathering in the Silicon Valley of Korea, to meet in International Astronautical Congress 2009. This big event is hosted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology joined with the Daejeon Metropolitan City.

Under the theme : “Space for Sustainable Peace and Progress” Daejeon wants to strengthen the role of Korea in the world of the “space technology. After having its first astronaut, So Youn Lee, went to the space with 2 Russian Astronauts, Republic of Korea wants to have more role in the world of space.

Korea’s Pride and Focus of Space Technology: 10.000 Won Currency

Not only holding one of the biggest event in the field of Space Community, Korea has been showing its concern in space since long time ago. One real fact is how they put a lot of space and astronomical symbol in their currency, in the 10,000 won money.

Astronomy of 10.000 Won

Astronomy of 10.000 Won

As far as I concern, there are 3 objects inscribed inside the print of the green-colored 10.000 won. The first is the ancient Sejong’s space observation instrument, named Honcheoneui, printed out on the left part of the money, symbolizing that Korea has concerned about space since its historical period. Honcheoneui is the ancient clock used in Sejong’s period.

Then on the right hand side, we’ll see the picture of modern optical telescope in the observatory on Bohyeonsan Mountain in Gyeongsangbuk-do (North Gyeongsang Province) which is the biggest telescope in Korea. Its diameter is up to to 1.8 meters. The telescope allows one to investigate distant galaxies and differentiate between the dynamics and chemical characteristics of different stars, star clusters and galaxies.

On the back ground we’ll see the ancient astrological chart, Chunsang-yulcha-bunya-jido (1395), which is the second oldest astrology chart in the world next after that of Chine which is dated 1247. This chart was developed during the royal family of Joseon. It was inscribed in the stone during that day since other writing material was not common.

Bringing Aerospace Technology Close to Common Public

During the festival, visitors can enjoy the astronomical objects or training for astronauts. Moreover, Korea puts more attention on kids or elementary school students so that they can understand and experience astronautical life since their young age. There are many shows for them.

Korean Proud Astronaut, So Youn Lee

Korean Proud Astronaut, So Youn Lee

They inspire the kids by showing off the Korean first astronaut. And she is a lady! in the nearby the entry to the exhibition house. Many of her pictures are there. Every kids will envy on her, and want to be astronauts as well.

Then there are also simulations for space training life. One of them is the rotating seats where the kids sit on the rotating seats and they’ll be turned around and around, just like what the real astronauts did during their training. They also have the jumping training where a kid will be belted in his/her wrist and then being jumped up to the ’sky’.

Quite fun!! Korea is really trying to bring more innovation to the space technology!!

Ahn Jung Geun’s Role in East Asian Peace

Ahn Jung-Geun

Ahn Jung-Geun

Ahn Jung Geun is the first brick stacker in building the house of East Asia Community into one big family under peace and equality. He was eagerly willing to restore peace upon East Asia after being colonized by the Western, for rapid recovery and faster development.

Since these 3 great Asian countries shared similar culture, they should be united, not be fighting against each other. The unity among them will be ultimate benefit for all.

He had a very strong vision toward the unity of East Asian countries, narrated his idea of Pan Asianism on his paper “On Peace in East Asia” which unluckily he didn’t have enough “life-time” to finish it since his 2-week postpone proposal to Japanese Emperor prior his death penalty was rejected.

Upon a period of hard time in East Asia, Ahn proposed a regional cooperation for East Asian so that they could recover from a devastating colonization years under western emperor.

Ahn’s View of Pan Asianism

To Ahn, the East Asia should unite in order to counter the colonization from the Western States. Such union should be based on equality among those 3 countries, not based on conquest of a single nation.

Not only should respect the independence of each other, those 3 East Asian countries should work together to overcome their economic difficulties after a long period of war against the West.

His love toward the partnership among East Asian countries and his beloved nation is so incredibly sincere that he was willing to sacrifice his life for it. The real-life proof was when he decided to assassinate the first Prime Minister of Japan Empire, Ito Hirobumi, on a railway platform of Harbin, Manchuria in 1909. Despite his awareness of the penalty he would get after conducting the assassination, he convinced his mind to shoot Ito for the peace of East.

In spite of his devout believe in Catholicism and his understanding that murder is disallowed, he was certain that assassinating Ito was the best movement for the raise of peace in the East.

Ahn’s Reason to Assassin Prime Minister Ito

Ito Hirobumi

Ito Hirobumi

His assassination of Prime Minister Ito was an output of great suffering of the Koreans. Being a Pan Asianist, he believed Ito was tricking the world and Japanese Emperor into thinking that Koreans want to be a protectorate of Japan and Ito has made some illusion view of Korea was at peace and everything was doing well.

This false view of the world and Japan Emperor should be clarified and he needed to prove it. Assassinating Ito will put the world into awareness that there was really something happening in Korea Peninsula. There was not peace in Korea and that the Korea didn’t want to be a protectorate of Meiji Emperor.

Ahn charged Ito for being responsible in destroying the peace of East Asia Community. When Ito was the residential-general, Ito had significantly destroyed Korean sovereignty by forcing the ruling power of GoJeong Emperor to abdicate in 1907 after compelling to sign up treaties in 1905 and 1907.

Ito has ruined up Korean independence by his desire to rule out Korea. When the movement activists tried to fight back, Ito ordered to annihilate those independence-activists. Ahn believed Ito was responsible for the death of thousands of Koreans during the period.

During that time Ahn believed that East Asia should unite to combat against the colonizing western, not conquering each others. Ito’s ambition to colonize Korea was truly against Ahn’s view and therefore assassinating him will put East Asia further into a united community.

For Ahn, Ito’s assassination would give the unbiased view of tragedy in Korea, how terrible the life was. It, as well, would serve his passion toward Pan Asia where 3 neighboring countries will live together under equality.

Ahn’s Dream on Current Age

ASEAN Plus Three, in which Japan, South Korea, and China together with ASEAN countries having strong cooperation, is a current regional cooperation among Asian countries for boosting their development.

In the perspective of Ahn’s vision, this organization could be the representative of his unachieved goal. Now, those 3 countries (even broader as ASEAN is in) work hand in hand together to strengthen their relationship not (physically) to defeat the West anymore, but rather to promote mutual benefit among its member for faster development.

members of ASEAN_Plus_Three

members of ASEAN_Plus_Three

Ahn might not directly participate in establishing the ASEAN Plus Three, but his vision toward peace and cooperation in East Asian surely inspires the leaders in ASEAN and the 3 east Asia countries to establish cooperation.

He himself could not realize his vision of peace in Asia. His struggle singly might not be enough for establishing the East Asia Community. Ahn’s arguments might not be convincing enough for the East to work on together during that time.

However, for me and many Koreans as well as East Asian-ers, his idea has inspired us to collaboratively work together, cooperating in East Asia Community under equality. His spirit of peace in East Asia has motivated the leaders of East Asia to sit on the same table and formulate the best way of cooperation between those nations.

To put in one sentence, Ahn has been the first bricklayer to stack the first brick in building the most appropriate house of East Asia Community. He didn’t build the house by himself, but without him, the house might not even be started to build or build it in significantly wrong construction.

note:
This essay was written for writing competition about Ahn Jung Geun, held by the Korea Times. I was picked up as the 3rd winner. What a good luck for me!

Present Perfect Tense

In English we have the phrase “Have/Has + V3″ to express a past experience stating that someone has had the experience of doing something. In Korean language, we use “ActionVerb (으)ㄴ  일이  있다” to express that someone has had the experience. While its counterpart, “ActionVerb (으)ㄴ  일이  없다” states the reverse, stating that someone hasn’t had the experience of doing something.

Examples:

  • buy == 사다
(I have bought computer in Namdaemun market)
  • learn == 배우다
    전에 외국어를 일이 있어요???
(Have you ever learned any foreign language before?)
  • withdraw (money) == 찾다
    은행에서 돈을 찾은 일이 없어요.
(I have never withdrawn many from the bank)

Thanks for visiting guys.
Hope that few lines of sentences will help somehow.

Lyrics by Davichi

Davichi

Davichi

Hello everybody!
I really miss you guys…and this kind of moment when I can write down my feeling about Korean culture. It’s been a very long time after my last posting related to 2ne1. Almost a month!! what a long break.

Anyway, I’d like to mark my coming back with one of my current favorite song from the best new comer in K-Pop chart, Davichi (다비치), with their famous song: 사고쳤어요 (according to google it means: “I really messed up”) or some people say it means “I made a blunder.” Sometime you’ll also find somebody says it means “I made an accident.”

Basically, they all mean the same right? This song is about a girl who falls in love to a guy so much but she tries to hide her feeling to him. She keeps saying that she loves him when she is not with him. Her heart is just so painful for hiding her love. Dreaming, wanting, and watching him is just to hard for her. It hurts her heart so painfully.

Nevertheless, she feels that she has made a mistake by loving him. It’s kind of accident for her falling in love to him, but she couldn’t help from it. She’s been trying to hide her love, but it’s just too painful. Unconsciously her heart has just created the love to him.

Her tears couldn’t help either. Even though she doesn’t want to cry, but her heart is just so painful that she’s afraid her heart could be shattered and therefore she could no longer feel the love from it.

It’s really a kinda sad love song. But anyway, here is the video of the song, followed by the Korean lyrics, the romanization and the English translation. Hope you guys enjoy it!

====== Korean Lyrics ======

Dreaming, wanting, watching all alone, It’s too hard.

What should I do? My heart finally makes an accident.
I shouldn’t love, not me.
Even though I try so hard to prevent it, I know it’ll hurt, but I still make that accident.
Without me knowing, My heart created love towards you.

I didn’t want to love ever again, The scars that will come later hurts so much.
Wanting someone, and waiting, that’s so hard.

What should I do? My heart finally makes an accident.
I shouldn’t love, not me.
Even though I try so hard to prevent it, I know it’ll hurt, but I still make that accident.
Without me knowing, My heart created love towards you.

I keep getting scared, that it’ll be too painful.
That my heart may be shattered, So that I can’t use it again.

What do I do? My tears cause problems again.
I don’t wanna cry, I don’t wanna.
Even though I try to endure, It’s begging me to bring you back, It wants to see you,
Not knowing that you don’t even look at me.
