Hello everybody. Now I’m back with a posting about food, Korean food to be specific.
If the western has burger, pizza, and french fries as their fast and instant food, the Korean also has its own unique food, called kimbap. Kimbap is made of rice that’s rolled out with a “kim” Korean special sea weed. Inside the rice, they have something else, usually some vegetables, a tiny slice of meat, and some other amount of food. On its whole shape, its a tube-like food, around 5 cms in diameters and 30 cms in height; then is sliced up into small peaces with the green-colored kim as the skin of the rice.
According to its name, Kimbap is made out of two words, “kim” and “bap”, summed up into “kimbap”. In Korea, “kim” is a type of food, colored green, very thin (less than 1mm) in thickness, and made out of sea weed. Most of the time, it’s sold in a package in a size of 5 by 8 cms in width and length. The taste is like a tiny fish, and a little bit salty. The second syllabus, “Bap” means rice in Korea. Since this food is mainly made of rice and skinned with kim, then it has “kimbap” as its name.
Koreans and many foreigners who’ve been living in Korea for a long period of time like to buy this food if they dont have enough time preparing for their breakfast or lunch. The reason they choose Kimbap is because of its relatively rational price and they can be full after eating some pieces of Kimbap.
It might be varied, but according to what I’ve been seeing, the price for one roll of a kimbap is very cheap, only around 1000 won-2000won. That’s a very cheap fully lunch. Since the content of the kimbap is rice with some vegetables and some meat inside, it can be categorized as healthy lunch. Moreover, most people will get enough lunch by having kimbap as their dishes.
Eating it is very simple, you can either use chopstick, fork, spoon, or simply barehand to eat this. But most Koreans use chopstick for eating this since that’s they way they eat everything. Just chop the kimbap one by one into your mouth, like eating a piece of chicken from the plate. Or if you prefer use fork or spoon, you can just take one by one like regular eating. Using bare hand is rather unusual, but you can do it if you wish.
Alright guys, thank you for reading my another posting. See you on the next posting.
best regards,
~nasikun
